Google Instant and SEO

Google Instant has arrived. As of September 8, 2010 a Google search will result in speedier results as Google anticipates your search query and provides results faster than you can type your request! Says Google: “Smarter Predictions: Even when you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, predictions help guide your search. The top prediction is shown in grey text directly in the search box, so you can stop typing as soon as you see what you need.”

If you haven’t considered how this new service from Google will affect your site’s SEO you might be surprised when reviewing your next analytics report. Google boasts that Google Instant will help users receive information faster, saving three to five seconds per search. This translates into an altered search request as users omit intended keywords in favor of heading directly to a suggested search result. Google’s press release warns advertisers “you might notice some fluctuations in AdWords impression volume and in the distribution of organic keywords. For example, you may find that certain keywords receive significantly more or fewer impressions moving forward.”

In anticipation of the effects of this great new method of personalizing searches, Howard Miller Associates, Inc. is adjusting site SEO for their clients to keep their optimization techniques up to date and is helping them to better understand and utilize their analytics results in the ever changing world of SEO.
